화접중학교 홈베이스는 학생들이 수업 전후나 쉬는 시간에 자유롭게 머무를 수 있는 ‘제3의 교실’로 계획되었다. 복도와 교실의 경계 공간을 활용하여, 빛이 풍부하게 들어오는 창가 쪽에는 목재 마감의 단차형 좌석을 두어 학생들이 자연광을 느끼며 휴식할 수 있도록 하였다.
중앙부에는 원형 라운지와 작은 하우스형 부스를 배치해 개별 또는 소그룹 학습이 가능하도록 구성하였다. 따뜻한 색감의 자작나무 톤 마감과 부드러운 조명은 공간 전체에 안정감을 부여하며, 식물들을 배치해 심리적 휴식을 느낄 수 있도록 하였다.
이 공간은 단순한 복도가 아닌, 학생의 일상과 배움이 자연스럽게 이어지는 ‘열린 학습의 장’을 목표로 한다.

The Hwajeop Middle School Home Base was designed as a “third classroom” — a flexible space where students can relax, study, or interact freely before and after classes.
By utilizing the in-between area of the corridor and classrooms, a stepped wooden seating zone was placed along the sunlit windows, allowing students to rest while enjoying natural light.
At the center, circular lounge furniture and small house-shaped booths encourage both individual focus and small group collaboration.
Soft birch-toned finishes and warm lighting create a sense of calm, while indoor plants add a touch of nature and mental comfort.
