진접2 공공주택지구 내 새롭게 건립되는 (가칭) 진접1중학교는, 단순한 교육 시설을 넘어 아이들이 머무는 하루의 대부분이 의미 있는 경험으로 채워지기를 바라는 마음에서 시작되었습니다. 학교는 더 이상 지식을 주입하는 폐쇄된 공간이 아니라, 친구와 교류하고, 스스로의 성장을 발견하며, 자연과 지역과 관계를 맺는 열린 터전이 되어야 합니다.

학교의 중심에는 바람과 빛, 이야기와 우정이 흐르는 열린 교정과 커뮤니티 코트가 자리합니다. 이 공간은 교실에서의 배움을 자연스럽게 확장시켜 주며, 휴식과 놀이, 교육이 유기적으로 연결될 수 있도록 구성되었습니다.

전체 배치는 학생의 일상에 맞춰 편안하게 흐르도록 반원형 구조로 구성되어 있으며, 남향의 학습 환경과 인접 공원의 조망을 최대한 살린 구조로 계획되었습니다. 자연과 맞닿은 데크와 테라스, 다양한 외부 학습 공간은 단순히 휴식을 제공하는 것이 아니라, 정서 회복과 생태적 배움을 동시에 이끌어내는 치유의 공간입니다.

또한 각종 기능이 통합된 복합 공간들이 효율적으로 연계되도록 설계되었습니다. 교무 및 행정, 보건, 교과교실, 특별교실, 식당과 다목적강당 등은 학생 중심 동선을 기준으로 배치되어 있어, 일상적인 이동 속에서도 자연스럽게 교류와 학습이 이어지도록 유도합니다.

이 학교의 설계에서 중요한 또 하나의 원칙은 '사람 중심'입니다. 모든 공간은 학생과 교사, 나아가 지역 주민이 함께 어울릴 수 있도록 개방적이고, 누구에게나 편리한 무장애 환경으로 조성되었습니다. 커뮤니티 코트, 마음 나눔 라운지, 학교숲 등은 몸과 마음이 함께 쉬어갈 수 있는 장소로 구성되었고, 각종 테라스와 데크는 수업의 연장선으로 활용될 수 있습니다.

마지막으로, 이 학교는 변화하는 교육 환경과 미래의 학습 생태계에도 유연하게 대응할 수 있는 가능성을 품고 있습니다. 구조적 유연성과 공간적 개방성을 통해, 진접의 아이들과 마을을 위한 열린 학교의 새로운 모델이 되기를 기대합니다.

Jinjeop No.1 Middle School: A Narrative Campus for Future Learning

Located in the developing Jinjeop2 Public Housing District, Jinjeop No.1 Middle School is designed not as a static educational facility, but as a living campus where students learn, connect, and grow in harmony with their surroundings.

The school’s core concept is built around openness—open courtyards, flowing light and air, and spaces where voices of friendship can resonate. The community court is not just a plaza but a bridge between learning, rest, and play. This space organically connects classrooms with daily life and encourages active participation.

The site planning embraces a half-courtyard layout that harmonizes with natural topography and the surrounding urban context. South-facing classrooms offer expansive views of the adjacent park, while healing forests and garden decks support emotional well-being and ecological awareness.

Each building element is intentionally placed to support daily activities. Administrative offices, learning zones, healthcare, special education, dining, and multipurpose areas are seamlessly connected, prioritizing ease of access and meaningful interaction.

At the heart of the school is a central circulation hall that serves as both a physical connector and a symbolic platform for experience. It is where movement, emotion, and encounters converge.

The campus is inclusive and barrier-free, reflecting its commitment to a human-centered environment. Community members are welcomed into shared spaces, including the community court, the ‘Ma-eum Lounge’ for emotional support, and terraces that blend interior learning with outdoor reflection.

This school is not only a structure but a possibility—designed to adapt to evolving educational needs and the future of communal learning. It aspires to become a model for open, empathetic, and resilient school design in the heart of a new town.
